Biography
Martian Tabakov is a visual artist born and based in Sofia. He is working in the fields of sculpture, drawing, installation, sound art and looking for points of intersection. He also takes part in theatre and musical projects.
He has a Master degree in Sculpture at the National Academy of Art in Sofia in the class of Emil Popov and a one-year specialization in the Royal Academy of Art, Antwerp, Belgium. Martian Tabakov has participated in numerous joint and independent exhibitions and projects in Bulgaria, as well as in countries such as Austria, France, Turkey, Serbia, Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovakia.
From 2018 he is working in parallel with other artist at BELKA studio where are organized exhibitions, bazars and concerts. He is part of the experimental band KAKE?.
About
For Martian Tabakov creating sculpture installations in large quantity of different forms and objects is a major approach in his artwork. In most of these installations lies the idea of transformation and adaptation in relation to the given space. Therefore, giving them the chance of becoming a new work in every different location of exhibiting. Martian Tabakov also creates musical sculptures of an interactive nature. They become an occasion for musical performances with the participation of musicians and audience.
