Cultural Center of Sofia University

About the center

The Cultural Center of Sofia University was founded in 2009 by prof. Alexander Kiossev. Its mission is to build a bridge between academia and the cultural scene in Sofia: to host cultural events at the University and to present academic achievements to a wider audience. Since its founding, the Center has organized and supported numerous exhibitions, screenings, concerts, performances, book presentations, conferences, lectures and other significant cultural events such as Julia Kristeva’s visit to Bulgaria in 2014, curator Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev’s public lecture in 2013, Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk’s visit to Sofia and festivals like Sofia Baroque Arts Festival and Sofia International Film Festival.

The Cultural Center of Sofia University offers a rich online and offline public lecture programme featuring series such as “My Film”, “De Musica”, “The Faces of Science” and others. Its focus is on educational events that foster debate and reflect on important current artistic and social phenomenons. An example of this is the visiting discussion series RE:TOUR which reflects on significant exhibitions of contemporary art in the galleries that host them. Keeping with its mission to foster criticism and debate, the Cultural Center has two online publications - the Piron academic journal for art and culture and the platform for cultural criticism Atelier. Last but not least, the Center is involved in academic research and organizes an annual interdisciplinary conference on the cultural history of contemporaneity. - за това не съм никак сигурна, излязохме ли вече от постмодерността :)?. алтернатива: contemporary cultural history?

The Cultural Center is open to external partnerships that serve its mission and goals. If you would like to present your event in Sofia University, you can send your proposal via the form on the Center’s website.
