Nora Ampova

Biography

Nora Ampova was born in 1989 in Sofia, Bulgaria. She received her Bachelor's degree
(2009-2012) and her Master's degree (2012-2014) at the National Academy of Fine Arts,
Sofia, under the mentorship of Prof. Andrey Daniel and Pravdoliub Ivanov. In 2011, she
specialized in fine arts at the University of Hertfordshire, UK, through the Erasmus program.
Nora Ampova is a distinguished contemporary artist, working mainly in painting. Ampova
has held over ten solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group projects both
domestically in Bulgaria and internationally. Her works are included in various prestigious
and private collections across Bulgaria and abroad, such as the Hugo Voeten Art Center in
Herentals, BelgiumIn 2016, Nora Ampova was honored with the UniCredit Bank and Stoyan
Kambarev Foundation Young Artist Award.


About

Nora Ampova primarily works in the medium of painting, but also is experimenting with various approaches to enhance her visual language. Her artistic practice extends to collages, drawings, sculptures, and digital projects, often blending different styles, including surrealism, romanticism, expressionism, and pop art. The creative process for her begins with personal experiences and emotions, which become the central themes of her works. Through art, she aims at "locking" specific insights and convey messages to the audience. Ampova's interests lie in exploring the relationship between humans and nature, travel, self-sufficiency, loneliness, and isolation. Her paintings are frequently figurative, with the female figure serving as the main character in the  compositions, often a form of self-portrait.
