Biography
Ivaylo Avramov is a sculptor living and working in Sofia. He graduated from the National Academy of Arts with a degree in "Sculpture". He has a doctorate in Art History and Fine Art at the National Academy of Arts. Winner of the award for sculpture "Ivan Lazarov" in 2022.
A central problem in the his work is the study of abstraction in its modern transformations, as an organized structure; as a hidden structural correlation between objects and phenomena; as a research approach of the connection and dependence between individual elements in the broad horizon; as a de-escalating means of dehumanizing the work and so on.

About
"Ivaylo Avramov's work offers something fundamentally different. He creates his works not in the studio, but in the gallery. They are inspired by the peculiarities of the interior space. His works are an interpretation and sometimes a direct transformation of architecture, in which the distinction between sculpture and architecture is erased. … The creative process does not end with the creation, but with the destruction of the work. Materials and structural elements remain from it, which can be reused, as well as a video and photo archive prepared by the author himself. This method of work brings sculpture closer to the theatrical spectacle, performance and musical performance, i.e. to the arts that have traits of an event. It can be said that Ivaylo Avramov turns the gallery into a stage where the same spectacle is always played - the spectacle of the creation and destruction of the sculpture. A sculptor in this perspective is not a person who creates sculptures, but a person who creates the conditions, initiates and maintains a potentially endless process of creation, destruction and recycling of sculpture. A process that has no other purpose outside of itself.”
