Yovo Panchev

Biography

Yovo Panchev, born in 1981 in Sofia, graduated in Cultural Studies and Political Science at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. He has a master's degree in social and psycho-dramatic practices and art therapy, a master's degree in theater direction (ungraduated) from NBU, a doctorate in psychology of art from the National Academy of Art, Sofia, with a dissertation on "Psychological aspects of the artistic". Honorary lecturer in the Department of Visual Arts of NBU since 2010.

He has been an organiser of various cultural events since 2006. He is mainly a curator of exhibitions, festivals and interdisciplinary projects in various fields. Founded and developed (with a team) the independent art space Studio Dauhaus (2005-2007), which became a nomadic platform for independent culture and contemporary art. Co-organizer of the performance festival "Sofia Underground" with Ruen Ruenov since 2007. Since 2013, the festival has been the work of the teams of Studio Dauhaus and eXaf.org. The same team realised "Invisible Cities" within the framework of Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019 and a number of other events, including dozens of concerts, screenings, workshops, art actions. As a curator, he worked with various institutions and galleries in the country, Sofia and abroad.

He is author of critical texts (observer for the newspaper "Kultura" in the period 2013-2014), annotations and texts for exhibitions and catalogs. Yovo Panchev is a jury member and selector with a focus on visual arts, residency programs, video art, cinema, performance and contemporary art.

He is the winner of the award for curatorial project of the International foundation "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" 2010 for the exhibition "Border Situation: The Drawing in Contemporary Art", the updated edition of which took place 10 years later with an exhibition in the UNIART gallery, NBU in the period December 2020 - February 2021.
