Biography
Konstantin Achkov was born n 1973. Hi gratitude National Academy of Art, Sofia, subject “Sculpture”, master’s degree in studio on academician Kroum Damianov. Member on the Union of bulgarian artists. In 1996 hi participates in jubilee exhibition “100 years National Academy of Arts Sofia”. Two years later hi won scholarship on fondation “Open society”. In 2009 together with group Cherga hi participates on “100 Design London, with furniture and lamps made from cardboard, series “Cardboard Ghery”. This is first group participate on bulgarian designers outside Bulgaria. Again in 2009 participates in first “Biennal of bulgarian design”. Won second prize on the jury for product design with series tensegrity furniture X-tense (table and chair) and V-star (table). Gets and Special award of Union of bulgarian architects. In 2010 after open competition selection, won invitation for open Balkan competition -exposition in Belgrad “Mikser”. In the beginning 2011 organise exposition on his furniture (Kolibri, Fangs, Android-system, lamps Trapec) in during Sofia Design Week, The chair Android is exhibit on Budapest Design Week. Showing own products on Viena Design Wek, like a part exposition "There or There Isn't: Bulgarian Product Design Now", organise in Haus Wittgenstein. In during 2011 hi participates in second Biennal bulgarian design. In 2011 together with Petar Zaharinov make separately exhibition “Puzzles for Living” in gallery Credo Bonum. In 2012 make separately exhibition “Mortise and Tenon” in gallery Alma Mater. During year his furniture participates in exhibition “Helsinki World Capital of Design:, Finland. Again during 2012 make furniture for temporary studio Bulgarian National Television for London olympics. During 2013 participate in Month of Design Ljbljiana , Slovenia. In 2016 won bronze award A’award with chair Electron. In the same year have invitation for the first edition on design biennale Design.ve, part of Venice Architecture Biennal 2016, in exhibition “Wood obsessions”. During 2017 together Lock participate in Stckholm Furniture Fair 2017, Sweden. During Year make separately exhibition “Light and Shadows” in Fabrica 126. Again during year his furniture participates in Portopiccolo Sistiana, Atemporary studio, Italy. During 2018 is invite for second time on design exhibition Design.ve “Design after Darwin, Adapted to adaptability”, part of Venice Architecture Biennale 2018, Italy. There exhibit family furniture Corner with specific minimalism with stone and wood. During year is selected in exhibition “Bulgarian design now”, Melba design festival on studio Complect.
About
The designer - Konstantin Achkov is a sculptor who worked for many years with complex structures like “tensegrity”. He is also known for his expertise in puzzle and interlocking systems. His researching in tensegrity steel sculptures, to combine figurative form with these unusual structures. The inventor of tensegrity Kenneth Snelson and biomechanical expert Stephen Levin says, that is absolute invention in this sphere. In tensegrity furniture, there all parts is stainless steel, hi make new construction combination. Many years Konstantin Achkov working with interlocking puzzle furniture theme, cut on one plate plywood. These specific furniture is zero waste is a ecological and have possibility to ship in flat pack form. Now the author working and researching in theme “sculpture with function”, where use more expensive material, like stone.

In the sculptures is developed theme of Biotensegrity like form make principle of the bodies of life creatures, consisting of bones and muscles.
